Baltic amber is not a “stone” but a natural resin. As it warms with the body’s natural temperature, Baltic amber releases healing oils containing succinic acid which are absorbed into the skin and then into the bloodstream. 

Baltic Amber has some of the highest concentrations of succinic acid found in nature, and this is what makes it so special. Succinic acid is a natural component of plant and animal tissues, and its presence in the human body is beneficial in many ways.

Commonly known as "teething jewelry" in Europe, Baltic amber has been a natural remedy for pain relief for hundreds of years. 
Amber is also known to reduce inflammation of the throat, ear and stomach and to fight irritation, infections and respiratory disease as it dramatically improves the body’s immunity. Natural amber beaded necklaces are a completely non-invasive remedy for side effects associated with teething, such as lack of appetite, redness in the cheeks, swollen gums, diaper rashes, upset tummies, earache, fevers and colds. Every necklace is lovingly handcrafted by Lithuanian artisans with generations of experience who carefully polish and softly round the shape of each Baltic amber bead so it rests gently against the skin. This ensures maximum skin contact and comfort. The string in each of our amber necklaces and children’s bracelets is knotted by hand in between each and every bead, so should the necklace break (which it should if necessary), the rest of the beads will not scatter and only one stone would detach. In the unlikely event that a stone should be ingested, amber is a non-toxic substance and is not harmful. The necklace fastens with an amber colored screw clasp that opens and closes easily.

How to determine the length you need: 

Each model comes in 12” and 14” lengths. 

You should measure your little one’s neck before choosing the length. A convenient way to measure is to drape a tape measure or a piece of string around the neck to see what length you are most comfortable with. Since hazelwood is not meant to be sucked on, it is better to choose a length that will not allow the necklace to reach your child's mouth. A basic rule of thumb is if you can slide at least two fingers between the necklace and the neck, that should be the right length for your child. 

As a general rule, we recommend the 12” length for ages 0 to 3 years, and the 14” length for children 3 to 7. Older children may want to use one of the adult sizes.

How to care for your child’s amber jewelry:

Remove your child’s amber jewelry when bathing to keep shampoos and other products from coating the amber.

To clean your amber, use a soft flannel cloth dampened with clean lukewarm water. Available in 5.5” bracelet/anklets, and 12” & 14” necklaces.  All three sizes are on string, are knotted between each bead, and use a plastic twist clasp system that mimics two beads.  In all cases there will be some very slight variation in color from the the images below.  The lighter the color and the cloudier the bead the stronger the effect.  Semi-Polished beads (the first seven colors listed immediately below) have more succinic acid than the similarly colored counterparts that follow.  ALL of the colors listed below will work well for teething pain, don’t stress getting a lighter color if the pain you’re treating isn’t chronic pain.  Have a little boy?  The semi-polished colors are much more guy-friendly.
